Eric C. Ellul

Eric C. Ellul is a prominent Gibraltar lawyer and Notary Public who has been in practice for over 40 years. He commenced his professional life in 1966 as a barrister in London where he also lectured at City of London College (now City of London University) and reported for the prestigious legal journal “The Weekly Law Reports”. He also used to be a regular contributor to a number of legal journals. He established his own law firm in Gibraltar in 1973 where he initially specialised in matrimonial law and was the driving force behind law reform in this field. In 1986 he was appointed Notary Public by the Archbishop of Canterbury. As from the early 1980’s, when Gibraltar first became a finance centre, he became a leading financial services practitioner. He advises the Gibraltar Government on law reform and also sits as Chairman of the Industrial Tribunal. In 2004 he was appointed by Her Majesty the Queen a Member of the British Empire. He remains in practice today as the senior partner and head of chambers of Ellul & Co. He is fluent in English and Spanish and speaks good French.

 

Marc X. Ellul

Marc X. Ellul is the managing partner of Ellul & Co and a leading Gibraltar lawyer. He has practised since 1993; first in London and as from 1995 in Gibraltar. In 2010 he obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Notarial Practice from Cambridge University and has been a practising Notary Public since 2011. He is a well-known corporate lawyer who also specialises in funds, ship financing and private client work. He is a member of the Finance Centre Council which advises Government on policy and the development of the Gibraltar Finance Centre. He is chairman of the Finance Centre Council law reform committee which is advising Government on changes to be made to our company law. He is also Chairman of the local Association of Trust and Company Managers. The practice of Ellul & Co has developed considerably since he joined and it is now well-known as a firm with expertise in commercial law, the provision of trust and corporate services, property, Gibraltar funds and private client work for high net-worth individuals. He has a working knowledge of aspects of Spanish law and is fluent in English and Spanish.

 

Ben C. Chiappe

Ben C. Chiappe is an associate of Ellul & Co and joined the practice in 2007. He is member of the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple since 2005. He specialises in property and conveyancing work and has developed a strong practice in this field. He deals with all aspects of the purchase, sale and financing of residential and commercial property. He is on the panel of all major lending banks and building societies in Gibraltar and is, therefore, authorised to represent both them and purchasers regarding the mortgage finance of any given property. In 2008 he was appointed commissioner for oaths. He is fluent in English and Spanish.

 

Carl J. Ramagge

After being called to the bar in 2007 and subsequently working for another of Gibraltar’s top law firms Carl joined Ellul and Co in the summer of 2010. He is member of the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple since 2007. Carl specialises in litigation matters, with a particular passion for civil litigation. His practice ranges from debt recovery, admiralty actions and judicial reviews among others. He also has a wide ranging criminal practice and has been involved in several of Gibraltar’s most high profile cases of recent years including trials for murder. He has also acted for two of Gibraltar biggest companies in Coroner’s Inquests and this year for the first time appeared before the Court of Appeal. At Ellul & Co he continues to build his reputation as a strong litigator. In 2010 he was appointed commissioner for oaths. He is fluent in English and Spanish.

 

Professor Grant M. Jones

Grant Jones

Professor Grant M. Jones is a consultant of Ellul & Co and holds an LLB and an LLM from London University. He is a Chartered Accountant, a New York Attorney, non-practising Barrister and Solicitor and Licensed Insolvency Practitioner. He is a Special Professor at Nottingham University. He co-authored the first book worldwide on protected cell companies (PCCs) and he is able to advise on all aspects of the creation of Gibraltar PCCs. As a Chartered Accountant, he advises UK and international clients on corporate and trust structuring. With an LLM in insolvency, an insolvency law professorship and over 20 years of insolvency experience, he is very well placed to advise on debtor or creditor based Gibraltar insolvencies.
