Corporate Law

The Gibraltar Companies Act is based on the English Companies Act 1929 but it has, over the years, been amended and updated to suit Gibraltar’s needs. The current Act is being reviewed by a law reform committee with a view to incorporating various provisions, principally, from the English 2006 Companies Act. Our managing partner, Marc X. Ellul, sits on this committee.

The English common law and principles of equity apply in Gibraltar and these, therefore, have a bearing on many aspects of Gibraltar company law.

Gibraltar’s tax system gives Gibraltar companies many advantages which make them attractive to be used to own assets, businesses and to form part of tax-planning structures.
